Filmelab is looking to undertake an unprecedented film teaching project, running in parallel, a professional short film production and possibly the largest hands-on teaching project for young people and local filmmakers.
Internships, work experience and roles will be available in all areas of production, from administration, technical departments and the large ensemble cast of young people that are essential to the narrative of the film itself.
The film is a suspenseful drama that takes the scenario of Hitchcock’s classic The Birds, and replaces the titular animals with ‘bored’ teenagers, with nothing to do but seemingly terrorise. Are they just bored, or is something more sinister at work?
However the twist comes in the representation of the young people and the revelation that these hooded youngsters are not what they seem to be, and maybe that their actions have a different motive altogether.
Not only is the film a teaching project in technical terms, but it also deals directly with a crucial issue amongst young people about the way they are perceived by others. One of the key elements of youth involvement will be in the development of the story and the representation of the characters, making it realistic and relevant whilst with our guidance remaining dramatic and cinematic.
Filmelab hopes to realise The Boreds in the first half of 2010. Get in touch to stay informed.
